When you attend our Gender Scan you will get to look at your baby, hear baby's heartbeat and find out if you will be welcoming a girl or boy bundle of joy! If you do not wish to find out in the room what the gender of your baby is, we will ensure this is written down and passed on to your nominated gender reveal individual. What is a Gender Scan?
A baby gender scan, also known as a sex determination ultrasound or gender reveal scan, is an ultrasound examination performed to determine the sex of a developing fetus.
Typically carried out between the 15th and 20th week of pregnancy, this scan provides expectant parents with the opportunity to learn whether they're having a boy or a girl.
An ultrasound technician conducts the gender scan, using high-frequency sound waves to create detailed images of the baby's genital area.
When is a baby gender scan typically performed?
A baby gender scan is typically performed between the 15th and 20th week of pregnancy.
This timeframe offers the best opportunity to visualize the baby's genital area, as the fetus has developed enough for the ultrasound technician to identify the sex accurately.
How is a baby gender scan carried out?
The scan is carried out using a specialized ultrasound device. The ultrasound technician applies a water-based gel on the mother's abdomen and moves a handheld probe, called a transducer, across the area.
The transducer emits high-frequency sound waves that penetrate the body, bounce back, and create images of the baby's genital area on a screen.
How accurate is a baby gender scan in determining the sex of the fetus?
A baby gender scan is generally accurate in determining the sex of the fetus when performed between the 16th and 20th week of pregnancy.
The accuracy rate is typically around 95-99%, but it can be affected by factors such as the baby's position, gestational age, and the quality of the ultrasound equipment.

The scan is considered safe and non-invasive for both the mother and the developing fetus. Ultrasound technology has been used in pregnancy for decades and poses minimal to no risks.

Can a baby gender scan provide any additional information about the developing fetus?
